With just four months to go until a 23-strong team of supporters sets off to summit Mount Kilimanjaro on 10th June, the Greenfingers Charity is calling for a final wave of support to help turn fundraising momentum into something truly life-changing.
The Kilimanjaro trekkers are now just shy of 50% of their fundraising target, having spent recent months rallying family, friends and colleagues to dig deep for the cause. With the challenge fast approaching, the team is urging even more people to get behind the campaign and help push the total higher, knowing that every pound raised will go directly towards creating a brand-new Greenfingers garden at Naomi House & Jack’s Place in Winchester.
Plans for the new garden are already taking shape, with Greenfingers appointing award-winning designer Helen Elks-Smith to help bring the vision to life. The project will centre around a peaceful, landscaped garden built in and around a new, fully accessible multi-use wooden cabin structure. Naomi House’s wish is for the space to become somewhere children can discover, learn and play, while also offering calm, comfort and respite for families and hospice teams alike.
Linda Petrons, Director of Fundraising and Communications at the Greenfingers Charity, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our Kilimanjaro trekkers. With the challenge now just months away and the new garden at Naomi House and Jack’s Place already in planning, this is a crucial moment for support. Every donation will help turn those plans into a space that brings joy, calm and connection to children and families.”
The Kilimanjaro trek itself promises to be as extraordinary as the cause behind it. Standing at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet), Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Remarkably, it can be summited without technical climbing gear, making it a true test of endurance, teamwork and determination rather than mountaineering expertise.
As the countdown to departure continues, the charity hopes that the combination of an iconic challenge and a clearly defined legacy will inspire more supporters to get involved. Every donation will help ensure that when the trekkers reach the summit in June, their achievement will be matched by the creation of a magical outdoor space that will support children and families at Naomi House for years to come.
