Climb Kilimanjaro for Greenfingers
Could you take on the extraordinary challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro, the legendary ‘Roof of Africa’, to raise funds for Greenfingers Charity?
Conquering Kilimanjaro is no small feat. The journey to the summit takes 7 days, with nothing but a tent between you and the wilds of Africa. An elevation of 5,895m pushes bodies to the limit, with an overnight trek on summit day taking you to views that reach for hundreds of miles. It’s no wonder this challenge is often described as life changing.
Taking place from 10th June to 21st June 2026 and organised by the expert team at CharityChallenge, this fantastic Greenfingers event will enable fundraisers to take our charity to the top of the world.
We have a team of 18 already confirmed...would you like to join them?

Kate and Matt
Matt & I are taking on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro!
This follows my 2024 challenge, where I ran 5km every single day to raise funds for Greenfingers. Throughout that year, Matt was my biggest supporter — often sacrificing plans so I could fit in my daily run. Since we met nearly six years ago, walking and climbing together has become our shared passion. We’re a little competitive too, recently summiting Ben Nevis in just six hours!
Kilimanjaro will push us to our limits, especially on summit day, but our motivation is clear: to raise awareness and funds so that children’s hospices can enjoy beautiful green spaces — places that bring comfort to children and families during the hardest times. As an ambassador for Greenfingers Charity, I’m determined to raise as much as possible and play my part in supporting this incredible cause. We’re also lucky to be tackling this adventure with a fantastic team, and we know those eight days will be unforgettable.
Please support us if you can and help us raise vital funds and awareness for this amazing charity.
Heidi and Tara
Heidi and Tara have been close friends for over 30 years which started when they met at Young Farmers. They have taken on many adventures together from Rowing at Henely, which led to Tara being the first female to row the Atlantic in a mix crew to representing their country in sports around the world.
Both are always up for a challenge and never say no to a good party, they believe dancing is a form of exercise which sometime also becomes quite competitive.
Despite their love of adventure and sports, they know that this will be tough challenge, physically and mentally but having spoken to parents with children in the hospices, its nothing in comparison.
Heidi is a Trustee for Greenfingers and has taken part in many fundraising activities for the charity and knew that having Tara by her side, they could support each other to raise money and aid other parents in more difficulty situations.
Please show your support for Heidi and Tara and as this amazing charity by donate on their page, all they ask is you leave a motivating/witty/loving message for them on their page.
Jodie and Danny
Hi, we are Danny and Jodie Rowlandson and we are proud to be taking part in the Kilimanjaro Trek for Greenfingers Charity.
We have fundraised for charity’s that support children with cancer and other life limiting diseases since our son Max was diagnosed with Leukaemia at 2 years old. He is now a fighting fit 17-year-old and is jealous not to be joining us on the trek!
Daniel and I actually visited Tanzania 20 years ago on our honeymoon and swore we come back one day to take on Kilimanjaro. Greenfingers is such a fantastic charity, and we are hopeful to raise as much as possible for them.
You can sponsor Jodie and Danny by visiting their JustGiving page.
Matt and Nicola
We are Matt & Nic Jones, married for 26 years and both reaching 50 years of age within a month after the trip.
We’re using it as a very memorable marker / celebration. I (Matt) work in the garden industry and Nic works in the charity sector helping reduce homelessness in the East Mids.
We are very blessed with three amazing children, 21,19 and 17yrs of age. The middle child is something of a miracle in that she had extremely low odds of survival at birth and battled for her life for the first 2 years with us. She’s now fit and thriving! Our oldest has battled / managed a serious health condition since age 15.
We therefore understand some of the stress and pain families face with children, but can’t imagine the degree faced by the children, parents and families supported by Greenfingers.
We hope this trip raises the awareness and support the charity deserves.

Johan
I’m Johan, originally from Holland but I moved to the UK October 1992.
I’m now semi-retired, working 3 days a week as a consultant and I signed up to the trek because I felt I needed a challenge! I’m really looking forward to the camaraderie and to raising a lot of money for Greenfingers - I’m aiming for £5,000 and so will be talking about the challenge to whoever I meet and wherever I go!
I feel extremely fortunate, blessed and thankful that our children are healthy and so I just wanted to give and help whilst I can.
You can help Johan reach his fundraising target to raise £10k by sponsoring him here.
Sarah – Garden Centre Manager, Nature Nerd, & Adventurer
Sarah serves as both the Garden Centre and Houseplant Department Manager at Castle Gardens in Sherborne, Dorset. With a commitment to sustainable, quality, customer-focused retail she gains professional fulfilment from helping others connect with the joys of gardening.
An adventurer at heart, Sarah loves travelling, and has taken part in several unusual expeditions over the years. Notably, she completed a 5,000-mile charity car rally that crossed the Sahara Desert in a vintage Volvo raising money for Medicins Sans Frontiers, the 6-month train ride through India soaking up colours, curries, and culture, and the 30-day biodiversity survey in Madagascar, camping deep in the forests, surveying an array of endangered flora and fauna.
Her travel style is back to basics full immersion, and so it is with excitement that in June 2026, she’ll take on her biggest physical challenge to date: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. When asked about why she's taken on this challenge she said, " The cause immediately struck a chord with me, and I felt compelled to be involved for such an amazing charity. I've got some nerves about the challenge, but more than that I have a drive to do the best I can to raise funds that improve the quality of life for kids affected by life limiting conditions."
She’s never been a mountaineer before, and of all the adventures this is a big one, but the mission is clear: get fit, be determined, and be bold.
