Board of Trustees, Founder President & Honorary Members

The Greenfingers Board of Trustees is made up of a team of experts drawn from the horticulture, gardening and other sector trades, who give their time generously - and voluntarily - to support the charity both strategically and directly, through various campaigns and initiatives.

Richard Jackson – Founder President

Richard Jackson has dedicated his entire career to the horticultural industry, combining his expertise with a passion for sharing the joy of gardening. Over the past 15 years, he has established himself as a respected writer and broadcaster and is a regular guest gardening presenter on QVC. Richard is the founder of Greenfingers Charity and played a pivotal role as a Trustee for many years, helping shape the charity’s vision and impact. Although he stepped down from the board in 2013, he remains an active and deeply committed supporter, championing the creation of magical, therapeutic gardens for children’s hospices across the UK.

Boyd Douglas-Davies – Chairman & Founder of Greenfingers Garden Re-Leaf Day

Boyd was elected Chairman of Greenfingers Charity in October 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and passion for creating supportive, healing spaces for children and their families. He is the founder of Garden Re-Leaf Day, the charity’s annual flagship national fundraising event, which has grown to become a highlight in the horticultural calendar. Boyd’s leadership and commitment have helped to inspire thousands of supporters across the UK to raise vital funds, ensuring that children’s hospices continue to benefit from the magical, therapeutic gardens that are at the heart of Greenfingers’ mission.

Richard Capewell – Treasurer

Richard has spent many years in the social care and charity sectors and brings a wealth of experience to his role as Trustee and Treasurer.

Tammy Woodhouse – Trustee / Chair of Fundraising and Communications Committee

Tammy Woodhouse, former Managing Director of Millbrook Garden Centres, has been a passionate supporter of Greenfingers Charity for many years. In her role as Trustee and Chair of the Fundraising and Communications Committee, she brings invaluable experience in leadership and strategy. Tammy goes above and beyond to support the charity, including raising funds through her business and taking part in bold personal challenges, most memorably, shaving her head to support our work. Later this year, she will take on the ultimate adventure by trekking Mount Kilimanjaro, inspiring others to get involved and helping to raise vital funds to support our work.

Alastair Peat – Trustee / Chair of Gardens Committee

Alastair Peat is the founder of Alfresco Landscaping. Combining his professional expertise with a genuine passion for creating beautiful, restorative outdoor spaces, Alastair has been instrumental in supporting the charity’s work. Through his business, he played a key role to improve  the memory garden at Rainbows Hospice, creating a therapeutic remembrance space where families can find comfort. His ongoing commitment ensures that Greenfingers’ gardens continue to flourish and provide a lasting impact for children’s hospices across the UK.

Sue Allen – Trustee

Former Chairman of Greenfingers Charity, Sue Allen has dedicated over 20 years to supporting the charity, most recently guiding it through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic during her tenure as Chairman. She is the former Chairman of Millbrook Garden Centres, a business she co-founded in 1979 with her late husband, Dick. Sue’s unwavering commitment to Greenfingers is evident not only in her leadership but also in her tireless fundraising efforts, including a daring head shave and helping to secure vital funds and partnerships.

Heidi Towse

Heidi has been part of the Horticultural industry since she was 16, working at a Nursery. She qualified at Oaklands College, and has since worked in many garden centres including The Frosts Group, Blue Diamond, Notcutts, Wyevale and Homebase. Swapping stores for suppliers, she has also worked with garden manufacturers. An energetic fundraiser, she is regularly spotted on many race start lines - and having been an Ambassador for several years, she became a trustee in 2022. In summer 2026, Heidi will be one of the 24-strong team of supporters taking on the extraordinary challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Greenfingers.

Roger Head - Honorary Member

Brought up on a vegetable farm, Roger and his parents moved into the garden centre industry in 1981, building and then running Forest Lodge Garden Centre near Farnham in Surrey, quickly adding cash and carry business, Garden Style and then acquiring Birdworld in 1996. In 2020, the business was sold, Roger retired and now lives near Godalming in Surrey. Having been a supporter of Greenfingers through the business, Roger was keen to further support the charity in his retirement as a Trustee. In 2024, Roger was also made a Greenfingers Honorary Member in recognition of his incredible support of the charity, including his generous contribution towards The Kitchen Garden project at Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice in Arundel, which opened in September 2025.

Rob Jones

Rob was originally introduced to Greenfingers by the charity’s then Chairman - a client of his company, The Garden Design Company LTD - as he believed Rob’s background as a lawyer, albeit an ‘out of date’ one, would come in helpful! With a mixture of legal, design and gardening skills, Rob offers Greenfingers his expertise in helping the team oversee the delivery of sustainable designs and builds that stand the test of time and provide a fabulous outdoor ‘room’ for children, families and staff to make special memories.
