A Wonderful Start to RHS Chelsea Flower Show

A Wonderful Start to RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show has got off to a wonderful start for us here at Greenfingers Charity!

As Kate Gould Gardens and her team were putting the final touches to the garden last weekend – after eighteen days of hard work and long days constructing and planting – we could see that the garden was truly special – true to the initial designs, it was packed with stunning features – and it was already generating lots of interest. In particular Kate's thought process behind some of the brilliant adaptations and how they can help children in hospices enjoy outdoor space. If you haven't already seen it make sure to tune into the BBC interview with Kate Gould and Keith on the BBC here.

Monday – Press Day

Press Day yesterday was an enormous success, we were so glad that our wonderful Patrons Jim Carter and Imelda Staunton could be there to enjoy the garden. We had little Myles from Richard House Hospice in East London there to test it out for us, along with his parents. And many other celebrities and supporters including DJ Chris Evans, chef Raymond Blanc and sprinter Linford Christie came to say hello and learn more about the charity. Raymond Blanc even sat and played a quick game of Jenga with Myles which was wonderful – you can see some of the action over on our Instagram page

Late afternoon were lucky enough to have Her Majesty the Queen and also Princess Beatrice stop by at the garden on their tour of the Show, to speak to Kate Gould and John Ashley, our chairman. What a wonderful and unforgettable experience for the charity.

Tuesday

The sun was shining bright and beautiful, ready to welcome RHS Members to the garden, but not before we learned that the Greenfingers Garden was the proud recipient of the Silver-Gilt Award! We were so delighted that the RHS recognised our garden with this prestigious prize. Kate had stuck to the garden's concept perfectly – to provide a peaceful and uplifting space for life-limited children and their families and carers to spend time playing, relaxing or reflecting. A Greenfingers Garden can offer so many benefits for helping children in hospices throughout the UK.

This fantastic achievement has only been made possible by a wonderful collaboration between the charity, a kind private donor, the brilliant Kate Gould and her team, many charity partners, the huge generosity of so many people in the gardening industry and all our supporters and volunteers who have blown us away with their assistance and kindness.

Many thanks to everyone who has played a part in making Chelsea a truly special experience for Greenfingers Charity.
