A Special Opening at Acorns Children’s Hospice
The Centred Garden at Acorns Children’s Hospice in Walsall was officially opened on 16 October 2025, marking a truly special moment for the hospice community and everyone involved in bringing the project to life. The opening celebration welcomed families, staff, volunteers and supporters to experience the beautiful new sensory garden for the first time.
The official ribbon was cut by Greenfingers Charity Patron David Domoney, alongside members of the hospice community. The day was filled with smiles, conversation and appreciation for the many people who helped turn the vision for this inclusive garden into reality.
A Garden Designed for Every Child
Thoughtfully designed by Vara Garden Design and expertly built by Paul Taylor Landscapes, the garden has been created as a welcoming and accessible space where children of all ages and abilities can explore nature in a safe environment.
The garden features sensory planting, accessible pathways and areas designed for interaction and relaxation. Every element encourages children to engage with the natural world through sight, touch and scent. From colourful flowers and seasonal planting to quiet corners for rest and reflection, the garden invites children and families to enjoy the outdoors together throughout the year.

The Impact of a Hospice Garden
Gardens like this play a powerful role in the lives of children receiving hospice care and their families. Nature can provide moments of calm, joy and connection during incredibly challenging times.
For children with complex medical needs, the garden offers a chance to experience freedom and exploration in a gentle, supportive setting. For parents and siblings, it provides a peaceful place to step away from the clinical environment and spend meaningful time together. Whether it is watching plants grow, enjoying fresh air, or simply sitting quietly outdoors, these small moments can create lasting memories.
Made Possible by Generous Supporters
The Centred Garden was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of Greenfingers Charity supporters. Special thanks go to The Hospital Saturday Fund, LOFA and Clarins UK, as well as everyone who took part in the charity’s flagship fundraising event, Garden Re-Leaf Day, earlier this year.
Their support helped transform an idea into a beautiful outdoor space that will be enjoyed by children and families for many years to come.

Help Create More Hospice Gardens
Projects like this can only happen thanks to ongoing support from the community. Greenfingers Charity continues to create therapeutic gardens for children’s hospices across the UK, helping families access the healing power of nature.
