Greenfingers, a charity created by members of the gardening industry, is urging garden centres that may have raised money through fundraising events, selling the Greenfingers pin badges or through collection buckets during 2009 to send in the cash.
Deborah Skillicorn, Greenfingers’ Joint Chief Executive, explained: “We have had a huge amount of support from the garden centre industry during 2009 and currently have a waiting list of children’s hospices that require a Greenfingers garden. So we’re asking anyone who supported us and who may not have handed in their donations yet to do so this month.
“We understand that garden centres are very busy places and often every day priorities can take over, so we thought we’d send out a little reminder.”
Greenfingers was launched in November 1998 by garden writer and broadcaster, Richard Jackson and a team of volunteers drawn from all sectors of the gardening industry.
Deborah continued: “We have lots of exciting fundraising activities planned for 2010 as well as creating magical gardens at children’s hospices around the country, so it is vitally important that any money raised for Greenfingers is put to good use.
“We would also like to thank everyone who has supported us in 2009 and we look forward to an exciting 2010.”
Anyone wishing to hand in funds to Greenfingers should contact the charity on 01494 674749 or email info@greenfingerscharity.co.uk to request a paying in slip. Alternatively, people can post a cheque to 23, Gregories Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1HH. Greenfingers does not advise sending cash in the post.
