Greenfingers calls for people to put on their running shoes.

Staff at a charity based in Buckinghamshire dedicated to creating magical gardens at children's hospices across the UK are this month (February 2010) calling for people to don their running shoes.

Greenfingers, which was set up by members of the gardening industry and has its office in Beaconsfield, is urging individuals and groups to come forward and sign up for the 2010 Bupa Great South Run, which takes place in October.

Helen North, Greenfingers' Joint Chief Executive, said: "Greenfingers has been allocated 15 places in the 2010 Bupa Great South Run at Southsea in Portsmouth on October 24.  Registration has already started and we would like individuals or teams to get in touch as soon as possible to sign up for the race in aid of the charity and get started with their training.

The Bupa Great South Run is a 10 mile race and was originally hosted in Southampton in 1990, moving to Portsmouth 12 months later.  The course runs through Southsea and is a flat run."

Greenfingers creates and improves a variety of different gardens at children's hospices across the UK, to help the children and their family and friends during a very emotional and difficult time.

To date the charity has worked with a number of hospices including Eden House Children;s Hospice in Carlisle, Richard House Children's Hospice in East London, Naomi House Children's Hospice in Winchester and Little Bridge House in Barnstaple.

Helen continued:"The race is a great challenge for anyone interested in doing something worthwhile in 2010, it could be an opportunity for a team building exercise or just an opportunity for a group of friends to get togther.

Anyone can sign up by contacting Melissa Wood, Greenfingers' Marketing Co-ordinator, via melissa@greenfingerscharity.org.uk or by calling the office on 01494 674749.  Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

To secure a place, runners will have to provide a £50 deposit when their place is accepted as well as pledge to raise a minimum of £500 for Greenfingers."
