Little Havens Children's Hospice Garden

In Autumn 2014 we finished work on two wonderful garden spaces at Little Haven’s Children’s Hospice in Essex.

Working with Matthew Eden of Chelmsford based Eden Horticultural, Greenfingers Charity transformed an unused patch of land on a sloping field.  A wheelchair accessible Vegetable Garden and mini fruit tree orchard with raised flower beds allow children easy access to grow and tend their own produce.  Specially designed features include a clever watering can water feature that provides hours of water play and fun, gravelled pathways, a pretty pergola and a scented and tactile planting scheme of grasses and scented herbs.

The second garden area features a colourful circus-style ‘Big Top’ social area where outdoor activities can take place all year round sheltered from the elements.  A space for therapies, story telling, or simply a space where children and families can relax together.

Greenfingers Charity received donations from Harrod Horticulture, the Garden Trellis Company and Cedagravel and many volunteers from the hospice made these gardens a reality.

Kat Clark from Little Havens, said ‘‘The Greenfingers Big Top garden has created a wonderful and exciting new space that children and families using the hospice can enjoy in so many different ways, including growing their own fruit and vegetables”
