Greenfingers Garden Re-Leaf Day has firmly established itself as one of the key dates on the horticultural calendar – it is a fun way to kick-start the gardening year and raise money for a great cause to boot. We are already getting excited and getting planning for Garden Re-Leaf Day 2016 which will take place on Friday 18th March next year.
In July 2015 we launched our new A Million Moments Appeal. This appeal aims to help at least a further 5,000 children and families who use hospices around the UK by raising £1million to provide them with inspiring outdoor spaces and gardens. These vital gardens offer a valuable chance to spend time outside, in a well designed, safe environment engaging with the natural world. Greenfingers Garden Re-Leaf Day 2016 will directly contribute to the appeal and we are urging garden centres, suppliers, clubs and individuals to start thinking now about your plans to raise money for this fantastic event.
Fundraising can take virtually any shape or form, from simple fancy dress to an epic gardening Olympics – a safe raffle to perhaps something more daring like putting the general manager in the stocks! The spirit of the event is to get everyone gardening, raise money for Greenfingers and raising awareness for its cause. But what if you can’t think of anything – or just not sure you’ve got the time? Take a look at these ideas first before you decide…
The Garden Re-Leaf Tool Exchange – encourage customers to bring in old or unwanted tools in exchange for a 20% discount voucher to spend on new Crest tools over Re-Leaf weekend. Customers can be encouraged to make a donation to Garden Re-Leaf Day as part of the exchange.
Hold a Garden Re-Leaf Plant-athon at your garden centre and invite customers, colleagues and friends to take turns to continuously plant for 24 hours! Encourage customers and participants to give a donation for taking part, or get sponsorship for overall event. After the Plant-athon, you could sell your seedlings and donate a percentage to raise even more money for Garden Re-Leaf.
There are many great ways for Garden Centres to get involved, plan something to suit your own centre, get involved in one of the initiatives above, stock the special Re-Leaf promotional products, or try one of these simple ideas:
- Donate £1 for every hot drink sold in the café over Re-Leaf weekend
- Hold a raffle/cake sale/book sale
- Set up an instore sponsored event
- Encourage staff to come to work in fancy dress and get donations
- Make sure you have donation boxes at every till point
We look forward to you getting involved!
