Keech Cottage: Courtyard Garden - Luton

Return to Map

Staff at Keech Cottage knew that the families of bereaved children in particular were in need of a tranquil and secluded area at the hospice, and the design by Madeleine Davis, provided a quiet but dignified space. By installing a spiral, slate water feature, half evergreen plants and paved seating area sheltered by a trellis screen, the courtyard garden provided a haven for families at the hospice.

In addition, Greenfingers were able to help with another difficult area of the garden - a steep bank and stream. With the planting of hardy shrubs and the installation of a meandering pathway and rill, the 'difficult' area has become a well-used garden particularly suited for reflection and contemplation.

Donations of items and products were generously received from Poplars Nursery, Hozelock, Porous Pipe, Stonemarket, Herts Timber Supplies and TDP.

Financial support was given by Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and all the planting was undertaken by Flitwick Vale Rotary Club.

The garden was opened by Radha Dodhia, one of the children, and Judy Hawkes, who is in charge of the gardens at Keech Cottage, on 21st July 2003.
