This year Greenfingers Charity completed its 50th hospice garden project as work finished on two tranquil garden spaces at the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield. As Autumn draws in we are delighted to share some images of the gardens, taken just a few months after completion, which show just how much the gardens have already blossomed.
The gardens at Bluebell Wood are tranquil, calm spaces that sit beside the two bereavement suites at the hospice and are designed to offer privacy and space for contemplation at times of grief. Careful thought was given to providing year round interest with planting to attract wildlife, bringing movement and an overall sense of tranquility in the gardens for families at difficult times.
Whilst many Greenfingers gardens focus on bringing elements of play and fun to children with ongoing illnesses who spend time in hospices, the gardens at Bluebell Wood highlight the extremely important work the charity does in providing the therapeutic benefits of gardens to those dealing with very upsetting end-of-life circumstances.
The gardens at Bluebell Wood could not have been made without the incredible help and support the charity has received from across the horticulture industry. These gardens in particular have relied heavily on gift in kind donations of products and services and Greenfingers would like to offer its thanks and appreciation to everyone who has been involved. Creating the gardens outside the bereavement suites at the hospice could not have been possible without the support of many, including all those who last year took part in Garden Re-Leaf Day and the Greenfingers skydive and James Bird Landscapes, Langlands Garden Centre, The Garden Trellis Company, Kelkay Ltd, Hedges Direct, Bridgman, Easigrass (Nottingham), Westland Horticulture, Wye Plants, Millboard Decking, Europlanters and Gardman Ltd.
We are delighted to see the early progress of the gardens and whilst they will continue to grow and develop, it is lovely to see that they are already blossoming into wonderfully tranquil spaces for reflection to be enjoyed by many for years to come.
