Andys at St. Andrew’s Hospice, Grimsby

Our amazing garden at Andy's at St Andrew's Hospice was officially opened in April 2018.

Andy's at St Andrew's Hospice is a palliative care centre for children and young adults suffering from progressive life-limiting illnesses. We were delighted to work with the team at the hospice to design and create the pirate-themed, wheelchair-accessible garden which is our 54th garden.

The original space was a grassed area, with hedging and borders unsuitable for wheelchair access. With a lot of hard work the area was transformed into a multi-functional garden where children in wheelchairs and beds can have outdoor fun and therapies whatever the weather.  Sensitive lighting and a wheelchair accessible water feature will provide an all-round sensory experiences for the children and their families spending time in the hospice.

This magical garden would not have been possible without the help and support of many individuals and organisations who support the charity in a variety of ways. As well as funds from Garden Re-Leaf Day, Smart Garden Products donated robust solar lighting, plants were supplied by British Garden Centres who also raised funds by donating 5p from their carrier bag sales to Greenfingers. The charity is also grateful to Kew Green Hotels who raised funds for through events in their 55 hotels across the UK. A team from Holiday Inn Lincoln (part of Kew Green Hotels) also spent a day volunteering in the garden and plan to spend more time there in the future.
